Ganderbal's Tehlipora residents aghast over choked irrigation canal, demand action | KNO

Ganderbal, May 07 (KNO): The residents of Tehlipora area of Harran in Ganderbal have expressed resentment over the choking of a vital irrigation canal in the area. The inhabitants told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that the irrigation canal, which passes near their houses, has been choked due to dumping of garbage. “We make a fervent appeal to the Irrigation and Flood Control department to direct the concerned officials to undertake restoration of the canal,” they said. A local resident said that they many a times approached the concerned officials but no steps were taken to clean and restore the irrigation canal. “We request the concerned department to take necessary action of cleaning and desilting of this canal so that it is preserved and the fields get proper irrigation,” he said. When contacted, AEE I&FC SA Qadri, said, “We don't have adequate funds available, EC bags have been put for safety. The convergence, desilting work has to be taken by the Block Development Department; they have started work at some places.” Despite repeated attempts the concerned BDO couldn’t be contacted for the comments as he didn't respond to the phone calls from this reporter—(KNO)
